最新公開的文件還包括1979年英國議會上院就UFO展開辯論前一次情況介紹細節。

英國國防部1950-2009年期間曾設一個專門研究UFO的部門，新公布的檔案資料即出自這個部門。

英政府解密6700頁X檔案

英國政府昨天公布逾6700頁關於外星人的「X檔案」機密文件，首度證實英國國防部曾經設置「幽浮辦公室」，專門調查民眾目擊幽浮等外星人相關事件，但始終無法證實幽浮真的存在。調查報告指出，如果世上真的有幽浮，有可能是外星人來地球進行軍事偵察、科學研究或者觀光。

英國國家檔案局（National Archives）昨公布25份機密文件，包括英國政府的幽浮（UFO）政策、國會議員針對幽浮的質詢紀錄，和民眾報案目擊幽浮的內容等。這批檔案證實英國政府很認真看待幽浮這件事，有人建議應該設法取得外星人製作幽浮的技術，用來開發國防武器。英國防部甚至在1950年到2009年設立幽浮辦公室（UFO Desk），專門追查幽浮真假，被喻為「英國政府最詭異的工作」。

接聽民眾目擊來電

不過，幽浮辦公室的「幽浮專家」，不像美國影集《X檔案》（The X-Files）主角那像，穿著干練的套裝到處追查外星人的下落，而是整天坐在辦公室接聽民眾的目擊幽浮報案電話。一名幽浮專家透露：「我在這份工作當然也累積了一些關於幽浮的知識，但我發現最好的解答辦法還是詢問Google大神。」

瓜分經費慘遭裁撤

幽浮辦公室營運的59年內，接到上萬件幽浮目擊報告，平均每兩天就有一人通報看到幽浮，不過大多隻是飛機、氣球或其他物品的反光，但仍有5到10 %的幽浮至今無法解釋。1995年的報告指出，這些所謂「幽浮」目擊事件，可能是前來刺探敵情的外國軍機或惡作劇，如果真的是外星人的幽浮，看起來似乎對地球沒敵意，可能只是來觀光而已。幽浮辦公室因為每年花掉英國政府約232萬元台幣，被批評瓜分國防經費，一度被轉到皇家空軍旗下，最後慘遭裁撤。

「無臉人走下幽浮」

曾經有威爾斯的飯店主人宣稱，看到有圓頂幽浮「像月亮一樣」落在飯店後面，兩個穿著銀色服裝的「無臉人」走下幽浮，然後開始到處測量。不過，幽浮專家調查後認為這可能只是惡作劇，因為附近的商店就有賣一樣的銀色服裝。另外，幽浮辦公室從2005年開始，陸續接到民眾驚慌失措報案指稱看到「奇怪的火球」，後來發現只是當時正好從亞洲傳到英國的「天燈」。
不過幽浮專家說：「沒證據可證明有外星人、幽浮、外星生物的存在，或他們曾拜訪地球。然而宇宙這么大，人類僅查探了其中的一小部分，我們不能排除其他星球上有高等智慧生物存在。」
